Inline 5 Motor Swap

Well, it's come to the point where I'm sick and tired of trying to get the damn thing running properly, it's got injection pump issues :cringe:, so I'm getting an om617 inline 5 Daimler-Benz out of a Mercedes sedan sometime in this coming week.

It should be as easy as unbolting the existing Daimler and swapping this one in, barring any difference in flywheel size that could cause it to bind on the bell housing of the tranny. I'll probably also have to remove the radiator and remount it backwards to get clearance for the fan, since the extra cylinder adds another 4 to 6 inches to the overall length oh the motor compared to the inline 4.

here's the torque curve for the om617

om617 – natural aspirated
om617a – turbo
KWatts = 1.341 horsepower
N-m = .738 ft-lbs

So that puts me at roughly 87hp@2400rpm with 125 ft-lbs torque@2400rpm

I plan to add a turbo as an aftermarket accessory to get the full range the engine will offer.

And here's a cutaway view of the turbo model, only thing different between the two seems to be the turbo and the exhaust manifold

Click here to see the full size cutaway.

I'll add more as i get more info/get my hands on the engine.

EDIT:
The engine has been in my possession for at least 4 months, maybe 5.
as of right now i am awaiting free time and room in the garage to get started with the extraction of the old engine and subsequent insertion of this one. This of course after i confirm the new one runs satisfactorily and after i reposition the radiator further up towards the grill, since the engine is about 4 inches longer than the 4cyl it's replacing.

More to come.
